Wonders of Turkey
Day 1 Istanbul Arrival Upon arrival to Istanbul International Airport, you will be greeted by your host who will arrange your transfer to your hotel. After check-in, you may wish to take a walk through the historical Sultanahmet district of Istanbul. Day 2 Istanbul After breakfast your day begins with a visit to the ancient Hippodrome, then a walk to the nearby Blue Mosque, famous for the blue tiles covering its interior walls & also for its six minarets. From here on to the Hagia Sophia Museum, considered as the masterpiece of the early Byzantine architecture. After lunch we will walk the courtyards of Topkapi Palace & visit The Grand Bazaar, with time for exploring the labyrinth of streets & passages housing more than 4,000 shops. Day 3 Gallipoli - Dardanelles - Canakkale Starting the day with an early check-out, with a small group we will drive along the coast of the Sea of Marmara, after lunch we will start our guided tour of the Gallipoli National Park which includes the Gallipoli Battlefields, Kabatepe War Museum, Anzac Cove, original tunnels & trenches at Johnston Jolly, the Nek Cemetery, Chunuk Bair New Zealander Memorial, Lone Pine Australian Memorial & Brighton Beach. You then cross the Dardanelles waterway by ferry from Europe into Asia to Canakkale for overnight stay. Day 4 Troy - Pergamum - Kusadasi Visit the ancient TROY of Homer, see its legendary walls & the replica of the wooden horse. Tour of Pergamum with the Acropolis, the steepest theatre of the ancient world, Temple of Trojan, the Library, Asclepion, the ancient medical centre, the oldest known hospital in the world. Continue on to Kusadasi for overnight. Day 5 Ephesus - Kusadasi We depart for a full day tour of Ephesus & Virgin Mary's House. Firstly, we visit the ruins of the Temple of Artemis, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. Then proceed to the Ancient City of Ephesus where you will explore some of the best preserved theatres, fountains & buildings in the world. A definite must while in Turkey. Of course, not to be forgotten is the House of the Virgin Mary on top of Bulbul Mountain, a pilgrimage site for many people of all denominations. After the tour you will return to your hotel for overnight stay. Day 6 Aphrodisias - Pamukkale Drive through fertile valley's to Aphrodisias city of Aphrodite, the beautiful city of the Goddess of Love in bucolic surroundings. Visit the best preserved ancient stadium in the world; the Odeon, the Theatre & the Agora. Continue to Pamukkale (white lime cascades), the noted ancient spa, where pure white travertine forms frozen waterfalls. Visit Hierapolis where you will have a chance to swim on top of ancient Roman ruins. Day 7 Pamukkale - Antalya Morning depart for Antalya, the capital of the Turkish Riviera bathed in sunshine for 300 days of the year. Arrival at noon, afternoon at leisure or Optional : tour of Archaeology museum & the old harbour. Day 8 Perge & Aspendos - Antalya Half day tour to the antiquities of the ancient Roman cities of Perge & Aspendos. Perge was originally settled by the Hittites around 1500 B.C. & St. Paul preached some of his first sermons here. Aspendos boasts the world's best preserved ancient theatre still used today, with the seating capacity of 15,000. Nearby stand the remains of a basilica, agora & one of the largest aqueducts of Anatolia. Overnight in Antalya. Day 9 Antalya - Konya - Cappadocia After breakfast depart for Konya former capital of the Seljuks. Visit the Mevlana Mausoleum & Karatay Koran School, then continue to Cappadocia, this miracle of nature with unique mushroom-shaped landscape, fairy chimneys, strawberry coloured hills, cave dwellings & colourful little Byzantine churches & monasteries. Overnight in Cappadocia hotel. Tonight optional: Whirling Dervishes performance in a 13th century Caravan inn. Day 10 Cappadocia After breakfast visit Goreme natural park, an open-air museum, a complex or rock churches & chapels covered with frescos carved in rock. Visit the handicraft town of Avanos, Red Valley, Derinkuyu underground city with several stories carved into the soft tufa rock & used by the local population during enemy invasions & Christian persecutions. After lunch we continue to visit Devrent Valley, Monk's valley (Pasabagi) where you will find the world known fairy chimneys. Depart for a panoramic view of Esentepe & then on to Uchisar, a natural rock castle. Overnight in Cappadocia. Day 11 Cappadocia The tour begins with a trip to the underground city of Kaymakli, one of the largest & deepest of Cappadocia's many such settlements. From here we drive to Ihlara canyon, 3.5 km walking through the canyon to Belisirma village. We lunch in Belisirma at a local restaurant by the river. On the way to the Caravanserai of Agzikarahan, we visit the village of Selime known for its out of world landscape. Agzikarahan is a very fine example of the Turkish Seljuk art, built in the early 13th century on the legendary Silk Road, for the accommodation of the traders & their camels. Day 12 Cappadocia - Istanbul After breakfast check out & transfer to Kayseri or Nevsehir Airport for Istanbul flight. Transfer to your hotel upon arrival. You may spend your time for last minute shopping at the Grand or Spice Bazaar or simply take a stroll in town. Overnight in Istanbul. Day 13 Istanbul - Bursa Morning depart for Bursa, a spa town since ancient times & the centre of silk production since the 15th century. We will visit: Green Mosque, one of the finest examples of Ottoman architecture. Lunch in the old quarter & afterwards we will have the chance to swim & enjoy a Turkish Bath in the famous thermal waters. Return to Istanbul late afternoon. Day 14 Istanbul Departure Depending on your departure time, transfer to the airport, end of services. |
