The Aegean Jewels Shore Trip
You will be met our guide and driver in front of the exit gates of Kusadasi or Izmir Ports and enjoy a scenic drive to Ephesus. Shore trips & sightseeing excursions to Ephesus, St. John's Basilica, House of Virgin Mary, Artemis Temple. Half & full day guided tours from Izmir & Kusadasi ports Turkey. Your first stop on this fascinating tour is at the House of the Virgin Mary, a Christian shrine in the vicinity of Ephesus. It is believed that Mary, the mother of Jesus, was taken to this stone house by Saint John following the crucifixion of Jesus. Roman Catholics believe that she lived there until her assumption into Heaven; other denominations of Christians recognize this spot as her burial place. and it is accepted as one of the most holiest sites in the world by Vatican. Now continue on to Ephesus, one of the most magnificent and best-preserved ancient sites in the world. Even those who usually find ruins boring will be captivated by this site. Ancient historians believed that Ephesus was founded by the Amazons, but now it is more commonly believed to have been the Hittite city of Apasa. The Virgin Mary is believed to have visited the site between 37 and 45 A.D. With your guide, you will see the Odeon, where the advisory council held its meetings, the Market Basilica, Curettes Street, Roman Bath, Celsus Library, whose facade has been carefully reconstructed from all original pieces, Marble Street, and the Great Theatre with a seating capacity of 25,000 people. After lunch at a local restaurant serving Turkish cuisine we drive to Sirince Village. This old Orthodox Village, 30 km from Kusadasi, was once named "Cirkince" (ugly). Indeed, its inhabitants gave this name so as to discourage foreigners from visiting, because they did not want to share the beauty of their village. Still, after several years, visitors understood that it was not ugly and re-named it "Sirince" (pretty). Today the village is a perfect synthesis of Turkish-Greek culture and famous for its local wine production as well as handicrafts such as rugs, kilims and beautiful Turkish carpets. At Sirince Village you will have a chance to see the local life at a village, as well as time to look around for local souvenirs and handicrafts if you wish. At the end of the day you may request to be dropped off at the port or time allowing you can enjoy a stroll in Kusadasi City Centre which is only a few minutes walk to the port (as seen in the picture above). |
